How does one tame living, breathing, heavy bodies? The series 500 kg I & II negotiates moments of shifting balances. Like a tipping state of aggregation half a ton of weight is being summoned in different conditions.
500 kg I (The Weight of 67 Iron Balls) shows a resting horse. What seems like an easy motif takes a mighty amount of preparation: the heavy animal only lies down on trained command when comfortable. What the viewer perceives is a confidential occasion between a photographer, a horse trainer and a hefty creature. 500 kg II (The Weight of a Horse) depicts 67 iron balls. The instrument used to stabilise photographical tripods was placed on the ground countless times until it equaled the mass of a horse. The two photographs form a symbiotic alliance: Both demand its counterpart for completion. In a mere fleeting moment of intimacy different entities conjure blurred volumes.
